At the Southeast Ag Research & Extension Center (SEAREC) in Lancaster County, PA, over 50 projects a year include variety testing of field and forage crops, annual and perennial flowers, small fruits, vegetables and other horticultural crops. Novel crops like industrial hemp, and new approaches to farming are explored here before introduction to the farming community at large. Other research focuses on pest control (disease, insect and weeds), cover crops, amendments, fertility and environmental management. Enjoy a farm wagon tour of the research center, then stroll the Annual and Perennial Flower Variety Trials and learn how new varieties are evaluated and scored. If time permits, attendees can explore the five Idea Gardens for inspiration.
